Where’s the Best Wheat Beer in the State of New York? Circa Brewing!

“We straddle the European continent with this brew. Combining the grist bill of a Belgian Wit with the yeast and fermentation of a Bavarian Weissbier, this beer bursts with orange peel, banana, nasturtium, and vanilla. It pours a hazy gold and sports a full-body, reminiscent of a Mediterranean sunset, you know, to keep on with the pan-European theme.

If you’re looking for the best wheat beer in the state of New York, and not just the CITY, or Brooklyn, but the entire state, then you gotta come to Circa Brewing!

Why?

Because Mike Kulha and his Spacelab Wheat just won a Silver Medal at the 6th Annual New York Craft Brewers Competition and Governor’s Craft Beer Cup! That’s why! (There was no gold medal awarded)

Ohhh yeah! We are over the hills proud of Mike’s work and the work of everyone here at Circa.

And we want to share that with you!

Here’s how the competition stacked up:

  • 185 breweries
  • 1,264 beers in 29 categories
  • 56 breweries took away a total of 84 medals
  • 30 beers were entered into the Wheat Beer category

Out of those 56 breweries, 84 medals, and 30 wheat beers, Circa took a Silver Medal for our Spacelab Wheat beer!

Who won gold in the wheat category?

No one! They did not award a gold this year.

That makes Spacelab Wheat the best wheat beer in the State of New York!

Bronze went to WeBe Brewing Company in Geneva for their At My WITs End wheat beer. Congrats to them!

What about our neighbor breweries here in Brooklyn?

Let’s just say Brooklyn is home to the best breweries and the best wheat beer in the state of New York!

Our borough took home a whopping total of 12 medals! That’s out of 84!

Here’s the run down!

  • Circa got Silver in the Wheat Beer category (as mentioned). Yay us!
  • Brooklyn Brewery grabbed a Bronze in Wild and Sour Ales
  • Transmitter Brewing snagged TWO medals: a Silver in Belgian Farmhouse Ales & a Bronze in Belgian Other (Trappist, Strong, etc)!
  • Wild East Brewing ran away with TWO as well: Gold & Bronze in the Fruit & Vegetable Beers (sour) category!
  • But the big winner, again, was our neighbors at Grimm Artisinal Ales. They brought home an impressive 6 medals, and the trophy for Best Brewery in NY State, second year in a row! This year they tied with Strangebird Brewery from Rochester. Congrats!!!

Celebrate with us! Watch Circa win the award for best wheat beer: Spacelab Wheat!

Award at 20:15 (wheat category)

Congratulations to all of our Brooklyn brewer friends!

Congratulations to us, and especially our master brewer, Mike Kulha!

Come give Spacelab a try!

Here’s how Mike describes it:

“We straddle the European continent with this brew. Combining the grist bill of a Belgian Wit with the yeast and fermentation of a Bavarian Weissbier, this beer bursts with orange peel, banana, nasturtium, and vanilla. It pours a hazy gold and sports a full body, reminiscent of a Mediterranean sunset, you know, to keep on with the pan-European theme.

Pairs well with our shishito peppers or charcuterie.”

Spring is sprung-ing friends!

Come grab a Spacelab Wheat, or the beer of your choice, some wood-fired pizza, or wings, or salad, and enjoy them on our patio!

See you soon!
